Product/Technology Name: MRI probe technology
Condition/Disease Targeted: Parkinson’s Disease
Company: Surgi-Vision, Inc. |
 |
Purpose:
Surgi-Vision’s MRI probe technology will enable rapid and accurate placement of the deep brain stimulation (DBS) probe, thereby reducing the timing, cost and risk associated with the DBS procedure. DBS is used to treat drug-refractory Parkinson’s Disease patients and patients with movement disorders and essential tremor. The DBS electrode is implanted intracranially with wires connecting to pulse generators in the intraclavicular region.
Viability: Patient outcome is linked to accurately placing the DBS probe and minimizing the risk of hemorrhage and/or brain damage during the procedure. The target region for electro-stimulation is approximately 3 mm in diameter and is extremely difficult to find with conventional imaging methods.
Improving the ability to visualize and map the region with Surgi-Vision’s MRI probe technology will greatly reduce the time and cost of the procedure as well as improve patient outcomes.
